Demolition of Clover Bar Bridge – Edmonton, AB
Hazardous goods removal, demolition and disposal. Located on the Yellowhead Highway and originally built in the 1950’s this 5 span 1000′ long bridge was perched about 85′ above river elevation. In 2001/02 a new 4 lane bridge was built rendering the old 2 lane structure obsolete.
The bridge was demolished by first constructing an above river access road consisting of recycled concrete from other sites to complete the access approx 1′ above river grade. The bridge deck was then removed from about half of the structure. The structural steel was then fallen using undermining techniques. Once the first half was completed, McColman & Sons Demolition demolished the second half using the same procedures. The project was completed in 4 months.
